The Peruvian is one of the main breeds that comes to mind when the word Long haired guinea pig is mentioned. The Peruvian has a very long, straight, smooth, silky coat which grows over the face giving them a stylish fringe. The coat can grow up to 1 inch a month and should have two rosette's on the rump. Show Peruvian's need regular grooming and the coat require's wrapping to provent soiling and damage. A Pet Peruvian's coat can easily be trimmed to a more managable length if it become's to long and tangled - usally around the age of 6 months. I like to keep my Peruvian's coat at floor length and a little shorter in the summer time.
